Abi Moffat is an artist living and working in London.
Abi challenges the preconceptions of the gallery experience as a form of communication over an easily distracted 21st century audience. Her work explores the psychological impact and relevance of abstract painting. She plugs in to our throwaway consumer culture, locating painting in a different space: a space of power or negotiation.
Paintings are presented as backdrops with ornamental props making reference to advertising of the modern day. Balancing precariously, the work embodies a sense of spontaneity whilst reflecting the fragility of our uncertain surroundings. Abi comments on today's society taking obsessions and trends, placing them against the tensions and history of abstract expressionist painting.
